Introduction

The Central Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 1964 govern the conduct and behaviour of government servants in India. These rules ensure integrity, impartiality, and professionalism in the public service, and have undergone periodic amendments to remain effective.

Definitions
  • Government: Refers to the Central Government.
  • Government servant: Any person appointed by the Government to a civil service, including civilians in Defence Service.
  • Members of family: Includes spouse, children, and relatives wholly dependent on the Government servant.

General Conduct

  • Maintain absolute integrity and devotion to duty.
  • Uphold the supremacy of the Constitution and democratic values.
  • Act fairly and impartially in all official duties.

Employment of Near Relatives

No government servant shall use his influence to secure a job for any family member in any company or firm with which he has official dealings unless prior sanction is given.

Other Provisions
  • Interpretation: Government's decision is final.
